It’s the pre-debut/MAMA era all over again with the return of the boys’ super powers and subtle nods to the group’s previous concepts with the #pathcodeEXO twitter feed and little Easter Eggs hidden throughout the ‘EXODUS’ teasers themselves. With their EXOPLANET #2 : The EXO’luXion concerts out of the way and the fandom pumped for a new album, EXO has been dropping teasers like it’s Christmas and the fandom’s detectives have been working overtime solving #PATHCODES and developing theories about when and which members teasers will drop. It’s a fanfic writer’s wet dream and it’s only getting better. Sure EXO aren’t the only group to have concepts for their comebacks and they aren’t the only group to have a group concept/backstory (remember B.A.P’s alien concept when they debuted), but they are the only group that has built their concepts into this enormous group ‘superconcept/mythos/universe’ that is constantly referenced in damn near everything they do.įrom power rings during ‘ MAMA’ to Luhan’s power tattoo in the ‘ Wolf’ drama MV to references in variety appearances to the #PATHCODE teasers and clues, references to the EXO ‘mythos’ are everywhere. These guys don’t just have MV ‘concepts’ they have their own group ‘mythos’, which started before the group had even debuted with the reoccurring symbolism in their teasers to the infamous narration at the beginning of the ‘ MAMA’ music video and continues to grow with each comeback.

It was then deigned that the twelve forces could only return if they brought with them a concept of proportions so epic that only all of their previous concepts combined could match its epicness and the fandom rejoiced.Īnd that concept was the EXODUS comeback.ĮXO, arguably one of the most concept heavy groups in all of Kpop. Once again the twelve forces returned, but striped of their powers and with a concept that did little to inspire new stories and the fandom was unimpressed. Writers from other fandoms flocked to AFF, Dreamweaver, Livejournal and Ao3 to write about the twelve forces and many feels were had. Hence, the twelve forces obliged, returning as wolves and inspiring countless fanfic writers to begin writing a/b/o and wolfau stories like no fandom had done ever before.

Though its mythology proved at times convoluted and long winded, taking up the first minute and a half of the “MAMA” MV, the fans ate it up and demanded more. When the skies and the grounds were one, the legends, with their twelve forces, debuted with a concept of epic proportions, the likes of which had not been seen in Kpop.
